What Are Dental Implants?

Dental implants mimic natural teeth using three parts. First, an implant post-surgically placed in the jawbone replaces the root of a natural tooth. Because the post fuses to the bone, it permanently gives your new tooth unbeatable strength and stability. Second, a connecting piece called an abutment creates an attachment point for the third part, the crown or restoration. Using the most advanced materials and techniques, dental implants are the closest thing to rebuilding your own healthy, natural teeth. Dental implants will give you the best long-term outcome, regardless of your treatment needs.

When teeth are lost, bone loss can occur over time, affecting your facial structure and jawbone strength. Dental implants prevent this by stimulating the jawbone like natural teeth. They function like real teeth, allowing you to enjoy your favorite foods without restrictions. With dental implants, you can live life fully, free from the discomfort and limitations of damaged or missing teeth, and maintain a beautiful smile.

Single implant

If you’re missing a single tooth or isolated teeth in separate areas, an individual dental implant seamlessly replaces your missing tooth. You’ll be able to brush and floss normally, and we won’t need to work on the surrounding teeth. Your dental implant will look and feel just like your own natural tooth!

Dental Implant Bridges

If you’re missing several teeth in one area, we can replace all of them without needing a separate implant post for each tooth. Instead, we can anchor a multi-unit bridge to two implant posts for lasting stability. By replacing multiple teeth with just two posts, we’ll minimize your dental implant cost and accelerate the healing process.

Implant Supported Dentures

If you want the versatility of a removable denture with the stability of dental implants, an implant-supported denture (also called a snap-on denture) may be a great option. Because they don’t require suction to stay in place, your prosthesis won’t fully cover the roof of your mouth, giving hybrid dentures improved comfort and allowing you to speak clearly.

Full Mouth Dental Implants

Full mouth dental implants are the gold standard for total tooth replacement. With just a few implant posts, we can secure a strong and durable bridge to replace a full arch of missing teeth completely. Full mouth dental implants look and feel the most like your own teeth of any method for replacing your full smile. Best of all, you won’t need to worry about them slipping or shifting, creating painful ulcers like removable dentures. With minimal maintenance, your full mouth dental implants can last decades!

Consultation and Planning

As with every treatment at McKenzie Family Dentistry, your path to a fully restored smile starts with a consultation. We want to know how your dental health is affecting your day-to-day and what goals you have for how dental implants may improve your life. We’ll collect state-of-the-art diagnostic images and perform a comprehensive examination.

With your dental and medical history, we can determine if you’re a good candidate for dental implants. (Don’t worry, most people are!) Your new teeth will be completely customized for your needs, facial contours, skin tone, gumline, and smile shape. We want you to love your new smile for life!

Procedure

Sometimes, you may need preliminary treatments like tooth extractions or bone grafts to prepare your mouth for dental implants. We’ll help you decide on the right sedation option to keep you completely comfortable through every phase of your treatment.

When we’re ready for surgery, you’ll rest comfortably while Dr. Mike McKenzie places your dental implants into predetermined spots in your jawbone at a 45-degree angle to ensure optimal support. Once these implant posts are placed, we’ll attach an abutment to the posts and place your temporary restoration on top so you can enjoy your new smile immediately!
